In Case You're Curious . . .

  • I was born and raised in a suburb of Seattle, Washington (It really doesn't rain *that* much!)

  • Being in Miami in "the late 1900s" (according to my children!) for graduate school was amazing - endless sunshine, lush greenery and I miss the ocean

  • I moved to Philadelphia in 2001 for my Internship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP.)  When I came for my interview, I went to see the Liberty Bell, and since no one else was there, I got to touch it!

  • I pronounce water "wah-ter"

  • I'm the proud Mother of two teens (14 and 17), each with special needs, so when I say I understand ASD, ADHD, executive function challenges, learning disabilities, anxiety, mood challenges, hearing loss, gender and sexuality, and other concerns, I *really* get it - as a clinician AND as a parent!

  • Our family has more pets than people

  • I love gardening and could spend all day digging and playing in the soil

  • My pregnancy with my youngest gifted me with autoimmune alopecia (yes, my body tries to get rid of my hair, and sometimes succeeds!)

  • In addition to over a decade in pediatric psychology settings at CHOP,  I love teaching. I've taught statistics, child psychopathology and pediatric psychology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • In addition to "Dr. Jensen", patients often call me "Dr. Merritt", though I've also been called The Potty Whisperer, Dr. Toilet, Dr. Carrot, Dr. Meatball, The Potty Lady, The [insert child's name] Whisperer, and more - whatever it takes to connect with my families.  This silly photo is of me doing a cheer with a patient about staying dry during the day!

  • I love what I do  - I'm so lucky to get to bear witness to people discovering what's getting in their way and learning to increasingly take charge of their world!
